Fingerprints of Time.
Unlocking Time

Wanting to know how old things are is an important part of life and certainly not confined to museums.
If you think about it we use dates all the time – for instance we want to know that the food we eat is still edible, we want to know that our family heirloom is as old and as valuable as we think it is and what about that special vintage bottle of wine we have been saving for a special occasion?

Dating things is a real life science; one that prevents us eating food that has gone bad and it can even be the key to solving crimes.

Today’s  Date invites you to explore some of the ways we all use dating in our everyday lives.

What our Visitors Think

’It’s very interesting and the children have enjoyed it. We’ve learned a lot and we liked being able to compare the same objects from different eras.’
’It’s good because there’s lots of stuff to do - you’re not just running round being bored!’
